Downloading from Adobe's Web Site

To use Adobe's Web site, you must have an Internet connection and a Web browser. Neither of these are available from Adobe.

If you want to connect from a large business or educational institution, contact your network administrator, helpdesk resource, or computer services department for assistance.

If you want to connect from your home or from a small business, sign a service agreement with an Internet service provider (ISP). See computer magazines at your local newsstand for ISP advertisements, or check your local business directory (e.g., the Yellow Pages) under the section called "Internet" for listings of ISPs. After you've signed up, ask your ISP how you can obtain Web browser software. (This software is not available from Adobe, but it is usually provided by your ISP.)

2. Open the URL "http://www.adobe.com/".

To download files from the Adobe file library:

1. Click the Free Plug-ins & Updates link.

2. Click the appropriate platform link for the Adobe product for which you want to download a file.

3. Click the title of the file you want to download to view a complete description of the file.

4. Click the Download button next to the file's title. Most Web browsers will prompt you for a location to save the file. Choose a convenient location, such as your desktop. Introduction to Downloading Files in Mac OS

Downloading a File

Because there are hundreds of different software and hardware configurations, we cannot provide basic downloading instructions for your system. If you're unsure how to download a file with your software or hardware, consult the user guide or the manufacturer. Adobe cannot assist you with installing, configuring, or using third-party software or hardware.

To download a file, connect to any of the following Adobe online services, select the file, and download according to your software or hardware's instructions:

- Adobe Web site at www.adobe.com/

- FTP site at ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/

The Macintosh files in the Adobe file library are provided in several formats that are widely used in the Macintosh community for online file distribution. Use the information in the following sections to determine how to open a file after downloading.

Opening PDF Files

To view a PDF file, open it in Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Exchange. Acrobat Reader enables you to view, navigate, and print PDF files on several platforms. You can get Acrobat Reader free from all Adobe online services. For more information about Acrobat Reader, send an e-mail with "315823" in the Subject field to techdocs@adobe.com.

Acrobat Exchange is similar to Acrobat Reader, but it includes additional features that enable you to enhance PDF files (e.g., add sound and video, insert or delete pages). Acrobat Exchange is included in the Adobe Acrobat software package, and is not available free of charge. See the Adobe Web site at www.adobe.com/ for more information about the Adobe Acrobat product line.
